Three-Function Combination Valve Series (Part 2): Popular Models

The three-function combination valve integrates multiple brake-control functions into one compact valve assembly. Hipsen offers several popular configurations for different brake system requirements, including PV2, PV3, PV4, and PV1.

Although these products are commonly referred to as brake proportioning valves, their functions and internal configurations vary by model.

Three-Function Combination Valve Series (Part 1): Concept and Functions

Three-Function Combination Valve Series (Part 2) Popular Models

Popular models of three-function combination valves

PV2 – Three-Function Combination Valve

The PV2 is a three-function combination valve that integrates:

Metering valve function
Pressure warning function
Proportioning valve function

The metering function controls the initial application of hydraulic pressure, while the proportioning function manages rear brake pressure as braking force increases. The pressure warning function monitors hydraulic pressure imbalance and activates the warning circuit when an abnormal condition is detected.

The PV2 is designed for disc brake applications and follows an ACDelco-style design, commonly referenced as ACDelco 1353.

PV2 Functions

Metering: Controls the initial pressure application within the brake circuits.

Pressure Warning: Detects significant hydraulic pressure imbalance and provides a warning signal.

Proportioning: Controls rear brake pressure during higher-pressure braking conditions to help maintain front-to-rear brake balance.

PV2 PV3

PV3 – Three-Function Combination Valve

The PV3 also combines the same three primary functions:

Metering
Pressure warning
Proportioning

Its main difference from the PV2 is the internal and external configuration.

The most noticeable difference is the position and arrangement of the bushing assembly. The PV2 and PV3 use different bushing configurations to accommodate different installation requirements.

The PV3 also features a different port/hole configuration compared with the PV2, with one hole removed from the design.

PV3 Functions

Despite the structural differences, the PV3 performs the same three core functions:

Metering + Pressure Warning + Proportioning

It is therefore suitable for applications requiring an integrated three-function brake valve with a different mounting or connection configuration from the PV2.

PV4 – Single-Function Pressure Warning Valve

The PV4 differs significantly from PV2 and PV3.

It is a single-function valve designed specifically for the pressure warning function.

Unlike a three-function combination valve, PV4 does not include:

Metering valve function

Proportioning valve function

Its primary purpose is to monitor hydraulic pressure conditions and provide a warning signal when a significant pressure imbalance occurs within the brake system.

The PV4 follows an ACDelco-style design, commonly referenced as ACDelco 61.

PV4 Function

Pressure Warning: Monitors hydraulic pressure conditions between brake circuits and activates the warning system when an abnormal pressure difference is detected.

PV1 PV4

PV1 – Alternative Bushing Configuration

The PV1 is associated with the PV4 configuration and mainly differs in the bushing arrangement.

The bushing configuration provides an alternative installation option for applications requiring a different mounting or connection arrangement.

Therefore, the key distinction between PV4 and PV1 is primarily the bushing configuration, rather than the basic pressure warning function.

PV1 Function

Pressure Warning: Provides the same basic pressure warning function as the PV4 while using a different bushing configuration.

Choosing the Right Configuration

The main difference between these Hipsen valve configurations is the combination of functions and physical installation design.

PV2: Three-function combination valve for applications requiring metering, pressure warning, and proportioning.
PV3: Three-function combination valve with an alternative bushing and port configuration.
PV4: Single-function pressure warning valve.
PV1: Pressure warning configuration with an alternative bushing arrangement.

Understanding these differences helps distributors, wholesalers, and professional brake parts buyers select the appropriate combination valve according to the required brake functions, hydraulic configuration, and installation requirements.

Why Choose Hipsen Combination Valves?

For professional brake parts distributors and wholesalers, product quality is only one part of supplier selection.

A reliable supplier should also provide consistent materials, stable production, quality documentation, testing capability, and responsive technical support.

Hipsen’s combination valve manufacturing focuses on these areas through:

Reliable Materials

New brass and 6061-T6 aluminum materials are available for applicable valve designs.

EPDM Sealing Components

New EPDM materials are used for applicable brake-system rubber seals.

High-Pressure Testing

Testing capabilities cover hydraulic pressure levels of approximately 3,000–5,000 PSI, depending on the product.

100% Warning-Switch Testing

Pressure warning functions are tested online during production.

Dimensional Inspection

Critical component dimensions are inspected and recorded.

Factory Audit Support

International customers are welcome to visit and audit our manufacturing facility.

OEM/ODM Capability

Custom product configurations and complete brake-system solutions are available.

The above are some popular models and introductions of three-function combination valves.
