Hydraulic brake booster uses hydraulic oil pressure (provided by the power steering pump) to “boost” the force of the master cylinder brake fluid, thereby applying more force to the brake caliper (which then applies more force to the rotor with brake pads). Both hydraulic booster and vacuum assist are power brake systems that can multiply the force you apply to the brake with the brake pedal, but hydraulic brake assist can produce more force than vacuum assist system and does not require engine vacuum.
