A brake proportioning valve is a valve that relies on the law of fluid pressure to distribute the input force to one or more output lines to reduce the brake fluid pressure of the rear brakes. Brake proportioning valves are commonly used in vehicles with front disc and rear drum brakes. It is a safety valve that limits the flow to the rear brakes during an “emergency stop”. This prevents the rear wheels from locking up before the front wheels.
